Enhancing Gesture Drawings for Dynamic Poses

Last episode, we explored foundational gesture drawing techniques. This week, we’ll look at refining dynamic poses to add more life to your figures.

Making Poses More Expressive

  1. Use Action Lines – A strong, fluid line from head to toe enhances movement.
  2. Exaggerate Silhouettes – Clear, bold shapes make poses readable from a distance.
  3. Weight & Balance – Pay attention to grounded footing and shifting weight for natural movement.

Exercise

Take a basic standing pose and exaggerate it into a dynamic action pose. Compare the two to see the increased energy and impact.

Of course, if any of this material is too truncated or leaves out parts you think are missing from your creative flow you are welcome to connect with me to set up a workshop where you might benefit more from live training! I am setting up class materials for a self-paced journey as I write this. It's just all the video editing that can take massive chunks of time in the day to complete.

Always more coming! See you at the drawing board!
